Often it seems as if we Christians believe what the world says to fear more than we believe what God says about those things. This is a shame as it can lead to us dwelling in fear instead of abiding in the peace that passes all understanding…(Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.)

Constant anxiety and worry, no matter how big or small can kill our faith and seriously damage our relationship with The Father because when you’re worried about life, you are not focused on Him…

With that being said, here are a few of the most common worldly fears I see us participating in most often and what God has to say about them in His Word, the Bible.

What they Say and What God Says

When the world says to regard your job as your self-worth, God says that you are worth many sparrows, in fact, He says that you are the crowning glory of His creative work! (Matthew 10:29-31, Psalm 8:5)

When the world says to worry about your source of income, Christ says God sees your needs and will provide your daily bread you need only to focus on Him and His kingdom and His righteousness, He will take care of the rest. (Matthew 6:25-34)

When the world says to fearfully hoard your stuff, God says to be a good steward, yes, but also to realize that your stuff is a gift from Him and is not your own, to begin with.

When the world says that there are bad people you should be afraid of out there, God says all men are evil, but that all deserve to hear the gospel and that Christ via The Holy Spirit can change lives (believe me, I know because it’s happened to me too) (1 Timothy 1:12-17)

While the world says to fear what others think about you and to worry about pleasing people, God says to not concern yourself with the opinions of man but rather to live righteous lives that are pleasing to Him. (Galatians 1:10, Acts 4:13-22)

The world says you should fear being alone, but God says you are never alone and that He walks both with you and ahead of you. (Psalm 68:5-6, Psalm 27:10, Proverbs 18:24)

But There are Some things You Should Fear

Two of the biggest things that the world says not to fear are God and Eternity In Hell. (Matthew 10:28) This is a big mistake that will for many cost them not only their lives but also their enjoyment of their lives by actively robbing them of joy, inner peace, security, and fellowship with their Creator.
