Faith. Culture. Hope. Life. Longtime journalist and commentator Billy Hallowell has covered thousands of the biggest faith and culture stories. Now, he's diving into weekly headlines and sitting down with politicians, celebrities, authors, pastors, and influencers to discuss the most pressing and intriguing issues of the day. "Higher Ground With Billy Hallowell" brings you light amid the chaos of our world, covering the intersection of faith, politics, and culture.
Billy Hallowell sits down with Bunni Pounds, founder of Christians Engaged and the mind behind the massive upcoming event “America Reads the Bible.” The historic, weeklong initiative will call national leaders and everyday Americans back to Scripture. In April 2026, hundreds of celebrities, pastors and influential voices will gather in Washington to publicly read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
Ms. Pounds shares the divine inspiration behind this effort, the movement’s call for repentance and renewal, and how rediscovering the Bible holds the power to transform individuals, families and the nation.
Don Piper, author of "90 Minutes in Heaven" and one of the subjects of the new film "After Death" takes us through his Near-Death Experience, visiting heaven, what he learned — and more.
Plus, Billy breaks down the only solution to anti-Israel lies, slander, and moral chaos after Hamas' horror.
On this special episode of God, Country, and the American Story, Billy Hallowell sits down with former Secret Service agent Darin Kinder, a survivor of the Sept. 11 attacks.
Mr. Kinder is the author of the new memoir, Bury Me in a Dirty Suit. He joins Mr. Hallowell in recounting his harrowing firsthand experience inside the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He describes, in vivid detail, the moments when chaos, death, and destruction collided with faith, courage, and selflessness.
From his story of miraculous survival and hearing God’s voice to returning to “the battlefield” to save lives, Mr. Kinder shares how the tragedy impacted his life, faith and life's mission.
In this episode of The Washington Times' God, Country and the American Story, Billy Hallowell sits down with historian Bill Federer for a deep dive into the faith and history behind America’s birth. From the unique nature of the Declaration of Independence and the radical idea of making “the people the king” to Thomas Jefferson’s original anti-slavery language in the Declaration, Mr. Federer unpacks powerful historical nuggets as well as the biblical roots that shaped the founders’ vision for a new union.
Discover how divine providence, unexpected allies, and even miraculous fog played pivotal roles in the colonists' fight for independence. As we look ahead to America 250, this conversation sheds light on the spiritual and historical forces that helped create and sustain a nation unlike any other.

America is facing a trust crisis. From the economy to the government and media, the metrics aren't good. That's why author David Horsager is taking on the issue in his latest book, "Trust Matters More than Ever: 40 Proven Tools to Lead Better, Grow Faster & Build Trust Now!"
"Until the 70s, almost 80% of Americans trusted our government to do basically what was right. Well, then trust tanked, our institutional trust tanked, and so we didn't trust government," he tells Billy Hallowell, noting the same is true of politics, media and education. "When I grew up, homeschooling was weird — not anymore. The institution of education isn't as trusted, so we have these charters and homeschooling."
Mr. Horsager breaks down the stunning extent of the trust problem, the impact — and how he believes America can remedy these issues.

One of the biggest mysteries plaguing Hollywood has been the overarching reticence to sufficiently court the faith and family audience, a values-based cohort that has proven itself ravenous for high-caliber content that delivers safe and uplifting entertainment.
But Tinseltown has traditionally instead offered up a drought in this arena, with mainstream networks, production companies, and platforms either ignoring or taking this audience for granted.
This has effectively forced Christian and family-friendly outfits in recent years to independently create outside of the traditional system. Meanwhile, Hollywood has, at moments, been taken by surprise when faith-based films on shoe-string budgets deliver stunning profit margins.
This dynamic seems to be gearing up for a pretty notable change, though, with Prime, a streaming platform owned by Amazon, set to release “House of David,” a TV series premiering Feb. 27 that pledges to tell the “story of the ascent of the biblical figure, David, who eventually becomes the most renowned and celebrated king of Israel.” Filmmakers Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn join Billy Hallowell to break it all down.
Speaker, author and podcast host Arlene Pellicane joins Billy Hallowell to explain what's destroying our marriages and families. Plus, Billy reveals the "truth renaissance" he believes President Donald Trump is ushering in — and why it matters.

President Donald Trump’s political resurrection is undoubtedly one of the most head-scratching and captivating moments in American political history. His reascension, by all accounts, seemed like an implausible pipe dream four years ago, and yet he has once again taken the oath of office, becoming only the second U.S. president — the first was Grover Cleveland, who served as America’s 22nd and 24th commander in chief — to serve two non-consecutive terms.
And this moment is sending shockwaves and warnings throughout Hollywood, the media and progressives more generally. Here's what liberals must learn from Mr. Trump's re-ascension — and quickly, if they have any hope of mending their tattered movement.

A member of Finland's parliament who has faced a years-long legal battle for sharing a Bible verse on social media is refusing to back down from her freedom fight.
Päivi Räsänen told "Higher Ground With Billy Hallowell" her legal battle began more than five years ago when she challenged Finland's main religious body, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, questioning why it had "decided to support, financially and publicly" a local Pride parade.
"It was a disappointment and even shock to me and many others," she said. "Many of my friends decided to resign the church, and I was also praying ... 'What should I do now?' I was very worried about this very public statement of the leadership of the church because I was worried that it will undermine people's trust on Bible and its authority."
Ms. Räsänen decided to take to Twitter to share text from Romans 1, where the Apostle Paul addresses sexual ethics. She added a question to church leadership about their position in support of Pride.
"After that, some citizen made a criminal complaint and the police started to investigate the case," Ms. Räsänen continued. "At the beginning, I didn't believe it. I just read it from the newspaper that police [had] started to investigate the case and I phoned to the policeman and he said, 'Yes, we are investigating it.'"
Now, she faces a major trial over her religious expression. Listen to Ms. Räsänen share the full story.

Jesse shares his insight on the balance between spiritual convictions and civic responsibilities, reminding listeners of the importance of praying for all leaders—whether or not they align with our beliefs.
The discussion also takes a personal turn, as Mr. Bradley opens up about the struggles facing the church today. From navigating the political spectrum to facing cultural confusion, he offers guidance on finding clarity in Scripture and using it as the foundation for decision-making, especially during elections and chaotic times. This conversation will inspire you to ask, “What does God want for my vote?”
Beyond politics, Mr. Bradley explores the real-life challenges plaguing society—from the rise in mental health struggles to societal shifts that often leave the church feeling isolated. He emphasizes the need for a grassroots, Gospel-centered approach, sharing practical ways his church is working to reach people where they are, including innovative ministries like Drive Thru Prayer and JustChooseHope.org.
They discuss how, in dark times, a little light can go a long way. Jesse shares powerful stories from Seattle, highlighting how small acts of hope can transform lives and communities. He calls on Christians everywhere to rise above the fray, spread hope, and become part of the solution, living out the true calling of faith in every facet of life.
So, tune in for a stirring conversation that will challenge you to think deeper, pray harder, and act bolder.

For KING + COUNTRY is undoubtedly one of the most popular inspirational bands of the modern era, with lead singers — and brothers — Joel and Luke Smallbone entertaining the masses through music, movies, and live tour experiences.
The duo most recently saw their family's incredible journey conveyed through the major motion picture "Unsung Hero," which was released earlier this year. Months later, they're now traveling across America on the 31-city "For KING + COUNTRY LIVE: The UNSUNG HERO 2024 Tour," performing music from the film and offering faith-inspiring messages to audiences.
The Smallbones' work is a fusion of art, faith, encouragement, innovation, and grit.
Joel Smallbone told "Higher Ground With Billy Hallowell" that he and Luke are "trying to create awe-inspiring environments" through their music and performances.
And it's not lost on him that For KING + COUNTRY is bringing out these messages of hope during a "very tumultuous time for this country." It's a responsibility and honor Smallbone doesn't take lightly.
"We get to pull people into a room that vote, think, look, act different from one another — different beliefs, different points of view, and yet we can come together for two and a half hours and have this ... emotional, relational, spiritual moment together," he said. "I'm really proud of it, and I think that's part of the deep purpose of it."

As the debate over parental rights forges on, California Gov. Gavin Newsom will soon have to decide whether to sign a new bill with sweeping ramifications.
"California schools would be banned from telling parents about their children’s gender transition under a bill headed to the desk of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom," The Washington Times Valerie Richardson writes. "Assembly Bill 1955 would prohibit school staffers and volunteers from informing parents about their child’s 'sexual orientation, gender identity or gender expression' without the student’s consent, seeking to thwart parental notification policies passed by local school boards."
This Democratic-led legislation comes as at least 10 school districts in the state began mandating that schools tell parents if and when children decide they want to socially transition.

"Christian nationalism" is everywhere these days...but is it really? The term, which has a plethora of definitions, sparks emotion and chaos, but is there something else going on under the surface — something far more sinister?
Fears over a purported “Christian nationalist” takeover are almost ever-present these days, but the real menace is far more fiendish: at best, a total disregard for First Amendment freedom and, at worst, a strategic effort to obliterate ideological opponents.

Is Christian nationalism an exaggerated term? And is God overtaking Hollywood? These are just two of the big topics we hit on today's "Higher Ground with Billy Hallowell" as we welcome the Rev. Samual Rodriguez to the show.
Rodriguez, president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, is on a mission to reach the masses with biblical truth. His quest has stretched from the the pulpit to Hollywood, with the preacher producing hit films like "Flamin' Hot" and "Breakthrough."
The fascinating mixture of Gospel and movie-making is something Rodriguez said first came on his radar 10 years ago when he was pastoring in church and a woman came up to the microphone and said, "Samuel, God says 'Hollywood.'"
"I had no inclination for Hollywood, no desire for Hollywood, to be honest," he said. "I was one of those evangelical pastors who would preach strongly against Hollywood."
But Rodriguez said he soon received a call from Paramount about screening the film "Noah" to see how it might appeal to the Christian community. He agreed and informed them the movie would likely not perform well among the evangelical community — a prediction that certainly came to fruition. That, of course, was just the beginning.

“One of the oldest Christian communities in the world is being destroyed.” It’s hard to imagine this dreadful truth unfolding in the 21st century, yet this is the situation happening right now in Nagorno-Karabakh, the small, landlocked region between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
“We are witnessing, in real time, the ethnic cleansing of Nagorno Karabakh by the dictatorship of Azerbaijan and its partners,” Joel Veldkamp, head of international communications at persecution watchdog Christian Solidarity International, told me this week. As tens of thousands flee, people need to wake up to what's unfolding. Also, we must ask an essential question: where in the world is Joe Biden and why has his administration been so painfully silent?

"Be committed. ... Trust God all the way." Those are the two powerful lessons Pastor Corey Brooks learned while camping out 345 days in a tent atop a frigid roof on Chicago's South Side.
A preacher, who has been on a mission to raise $35 million to build a transformational community center in the heart of Chicago, has simply refused to give up on what he believes God laid on his heart.
"There are times when you just want to give up and throw in the towel, but when you are convinced that God is giving you a vision to do something, you gotta be convinced that He'll also give you the provisions," Brooks told the "Edifi With Billy Hallowell Podcast. "And so I have learned that God, if he gives you a vision, He will give you the provisions."
Brooks, who runs Project H.O.O.D., an organization that seeks to empower and equip individuals and families, has already raised $28.5 million of his goal. Listen to him share his incredible journey.

A popular New York City pastor believes that the tragic assassination of conservative and Christian commentator Charlie Kirk has sparked something truly surprising: revival.
“Anytime society goes into a desperate state — and I think we’ve been there for years — this desperation is increasing financially, economically. We’re feeling it, but also within our families: people … start looking for answers,” Mike Signorelli, pastor of V1 Church, told “God Country and the American Story.”
Mr. Signorelli, author of the new book, “Fire Starters: Igniting Revivals and Sustaining Spiritual Awakening,” said this search for answers amid the chaos is leading many to discover Christianity. On the first Sunday after Mr. Kirk’s killing, the pastor’s church saw 533 people embrace the Christian faith. Watch him join Billy Hallowell for a powerful conversation about Mr. Kirk, revival and more.
Former Congressman and prosecutor Trey Gowdy joins Billy Hallowell on The Washington Times' "God, Country, and the American Story" to discuss his powerful faith journey, the moral weight of justice, and his new novel "The Color of Death."
Mr. Gowdy opens up about wrestling with doubt, the problem of evil, and how tragedy and grief have deepened his understanding of God and truth. He also reflects on his time in Congress, politics and his legacy. This interview offers a candid, thought-provoking look at faith, law, and grace from one of America’s most recognizable public servants.
