Many of us have been living inside a lie so long it feels like the truth. It has quietly shaped our identity, our relationships, and even how we see God. But there is a way to be free. Jennie Allen—bestselling author, speaker, and founder and visionary of IF:Gathering—joins John to share her passion for God and heart for the lost, the growing worldwide revival among young adults, and how her new book, The Lie You Don’t Know You Believe, reveals the three core lies everyone believes—so you can name the one running your life and dismantle it with the spiritual authority you already have in Christ.

Several times a year, John and Allen reserve the podcast to answer as many viewer questions as possible. It’s important we learn how to partner with Jesus in every aspect of life—including our biggest questions. This week’s topics address how to navigate life with ADHD, whether God wants us to dream about our future in what feels like the end times, what is meant by the term “unholy trinity,” the challenge young adults have when parents or older authority figures dismiss their insights, and what repentance looks like, both personally and collectively.

Over 40 percent of the boys in this country don’t have a dad at home. The result has been a dramatic increase in drug use and school drop-out—with some kids averaging up to 70 hours a week in front of a screen yet only 40 minutes outside. Countering that trend is Kids Outdoor Zone (KOZ), an outdoor ministry for boys that trains and equips men to mentor boys through outdoor adventure. In this episode, John talks with KOZ founder and Wild at Heart ally T.J. Greaney about his difficult boyhood, his deep love of nature and adventure, and the inspiring origin and growth of Kids Outdoor Zone.

It’s incredibly orienting to discover that when we say “yes” to Jesus, we are now part of a great campaign—one that’s already in motion—to help overthrow evil, restore the human heart, and fix God’s universe. This wildly beautiful invitation, however, isn’t secondary. It takes priority over our personal plans and priorities. As this series concludes, John, Blaine, and Allen reveal practices for staying grounded in the larger story, ways that God is at work in the world today, and how the unseen realm dramatically impacts our lives.

We love when things go as planned, but it reveals far more about us when they don’t. The exquisite beauty of life with God is that we don’t have to figure everything out. We have an intimate ally in the smartest person in the universe. What does this look like? John, Blaine, and Allen provide a real-time example as they enter the studio unsure of the podcast topic...but sure that God will reveal next steps. This isn’t just a helpful practice. It’s the only way to stay grounded in this shaken world.

For more than 25 years, Jan has held world-class fly fishing retreats for men—called The Wild Adventure—at an 1,100 acre ranch wilderness preserve on the Madison River in Montana. Get ready for a conversation that’ll stir your heart for greater adventure...and more of God!

If you believe you have a wicked or bad heart, then you will treat your heart—as well as the hearts of others—with suspicion, judgment, and contempt. But if you know your heart is good...well, that changes everything. In this second episode of the three-part series, John is joined by Fintan and Elaine Supple (therapists in Ireland and part of the Wild at Heart team) for a conversation on how the concept of the Good Heart plays out with God and with others in the chaos of daily life.

Do we really have a good heart? John and Allen take a fresh look at this question and the significant ramifications of how we answer it in the start of this foundational series. Many Christians still believe—and live under the false burden—that their hearts are desperately wicked. God, however, promises to set a new heart within us (Luke 15:8), and Jesus spoke of those with a “good and noble heart” (Luke 15:8). Discover the reality and the utter relief of the Good Heart in every area of life, including our self-image, relationships, calling, and walk with God.

As we start the new year, one of the most dangerous assumptions is that things will be the same as last year. Our world is growing increasingly dangerous and uncertain. Rather than move through it casually or rely on self-effort, a sobriety is required to follow God in both the big and small things. To help, John and Allen reveal the difference in dreams and desires, what keeps us stuck, and an often-missed condition for God’s blessing and protection.

This three-part series kicks off with John and Blaine Eldredge talking about the lost art of noticing what God is up to in our lives—not just today but over time. While clarity is essential, the ultimate goal is to come into alignment with what God is doing. How do we do that? In Part 1, John and Blaine lay a solid foundation by revealing three specific suppositions for discerning God’s work in our lives so we can join him there.
Show Notes: The books referenced are The Horse and His Boy by C. S. Lewis, Now and Then by Frederick Buechner, and The Inner Chamber and the Inner Life by Andrew Murray.
The “3 Presuppositions for Discerning God’s Work in Your Life” are:
1) God is speaking to all people at all times.
2) Most people don’t learn to discern God’s work in isolation.

What do you do when someone you care about has a major blind spot that's self-destructive or hurtful to you and others? In the second half of this series, the team makes it practical as John asks Stasi, Allen, and Stacey how they'd react to several "what if" scenarios. Their responses may surprise you. Hard conversations aren't easy, but they also aren't to be feared—once you ask God if and when to engage, what to say, and how to say it.
Show Notes: You can sign up for Wild at Heart's Friday video emails at https://wildatheart.org/media/johns-weekly-video-update/. The verse John references is John 12:49 (NLT): "I don’t speak on my own authority. The Father who sent me has commanded me what to say and how to say it."

What does mature love look like when it comes to having hard conversation? We can't just say what we see. Nor can we ignore someone's blind spot (or our own) indefinitely. John, Stasi, Allen, and Stacey share how they tend to handle difficult conversations on a spectrum of avoidance to delay to immediate confrontation. Loving well in these situations isn't simple or easy...but it is possible.

The "spirit of death" is sneaky, pervasive, and toxic. It tries to get us to make agreements that the things we most value in life are over—resulting in the death of our dreams, faith, marriage, friendships, calling, and creativity. John and Stasi illuminate what's really going on, how to renounce these lies of the enemy, and ways to live with renewed hope. If you've been struggling with discouragement, resignation, and a vague feeling that it's the end of everything you care deeply about, this message is for you!

Greg shares his own vulnerable story of redemption as well as concepts from his new book, The Rest of Your Story, including ways the enemy uses our past to keep us from realizing our purpose, the difference between living forgiven and living free, and why control is never the path to the story God created us for.

We are all living in a global moment of massive instability. Culture, technology, and constant chaos actually are conditioning us against God. If you're feeling like this world is an increasingly unstable place, you're not alone...or crazy. During moments of intense global transition and shaking, it's helpful to have an accessible voice explain the historical and cultural forces at work from a Christian worldview. In this two-part series, Mark Sayers joins John and Blaine Eldredge for a fascinating, globe-spanning conversation. He also reads extended passages from two chapters, revealing how we're all Disciples of the Internet, what it means to be an "ordinary mystic," and why we need to turn from distractions and toward Jesus.
Show Notes: Experience Jesus. Really. will be released on March 4, 2025, but you can pre-order the book and audiobook now at Amazon.com.

If someone came and lived with you as your disciple for a week, what would the effect on them be from adopting your ways of life? That's just one of the intriguing questions John asks the Wild at Heart team during this Q&A session from Survival School. The focus is on our dailies, because the choices we make each day determine the trajectory of our lives—from spiritual practices like soul care and sacred nourishment to simple barometers like how much time we spend in the news, how late we go to bed, and how hard we push ourselves on the weekend. Your life is built on the dailies. The question is, what kind of life are you building?

In the second half of this series, Allen asks John the questions listeners are most curious about. This week's topics include why it's so hard to hold on to the breakthroughs obtained at Wild at Heart retreats, how women can host local Captivating Fires, and what our relationship will be in the coming Kingdom to those who've gone before us. We'll even answer the number one topic people write in about...a question that may surprise you.

The growing global chaos doesn't just affect us externally. It also leads to internal confusion, weariness, and despair that makes us more vulnerable to the counterfeit spiritual experiences breaking out around the world. In this series conclusion, John and Allen reveal three ways to navigate these times of intense instability. We must get to know the real Jesus better, stay rooted in Scripture, and seek confirmation from those who walk with God. Because as things heat up, spiritual maturity is no longer an option.

From YouTube to anime to technology, the spiritual is increasingly breaking into our world. While this may seem like a good thing, it's a mixed bag. The unseen realm is filled with both good and evil, and the forces of darkness often present themselves as angels of light. Believers are ill-equipped to navigate this world as long as they engage it with more fascination than maturity in Christ. In Part 2 of the series, John, Blaine, and Allen discuss how to see what's really going on, get free from spiritual oppression, and embrace what God's up to in these unprecedented times.

We're in an extremely momentous and highly unstable time where civilization seems to be on the brink of a massive freefall. To make sense of it, we must accept Jesus' view of reality over all other voices. John, Blaine, and Allen begin this timely series by naming three major trends that are creating the perfect storm. Maturity is no longer an option if we want to partner with God in the larger story that he is telling.

If you're coming into this Christmas exhausted or empty, it may be because you're focused on secondary things—from finding the perfect gift to enduring the imperfect family gathering. In this timely message of hope, John and Stasi reorient us to the deeper, truer story of Advent season—which is both a celebration of Christ's first coming as a babe in the manger and an anticipation of his second coming as King. Your Christmas joy will increase exponentially as you look not only back at Jesus' arrival into our world, but forward to his return.

Where do you find yourself as Christmas nears? Are you entering into it with Jesus or lost in the rush of too little time and too much to do? The pull is to either up your game and be amazing...or lower expectations and settle for little hope and joy. In this third week of Advent, John asks Stasi, Jamie, and Stacey about the story they're telling themselves this Christmas, lessons from past holiday experiences, and the unique pressures women face in this season.

Story is how we make sense of life, but when the narrative is shaped by loss, loneliness, or disappointment, it can keep us stuck in an echo chamber of old assumptions. As we begin the holiday season, John and Allen ask what story we're telling ourselves about this Christmas before it even happens. Jesus stands ready to reframe our narrative if we'll choose to embrace the story he's telling for us—and with us.

Our hearts long for greater adventure and romance than this world can ever fully satisfy. This can't be it. There's got to be more. Thankfully, there is! In this second of a three-part series, John, Stasi, Allen and guest Mary Ellen Owen talk about how The Sacred Romance pulls the curtain back on this cosmic drama that God's been weaving since before time began. Like a lost message from Eden, it reveals a story big enough to satisfy your yearning for intimacy, beauty, and adventure in this world of danger, risk, and chaos.

The true story of every person is not the story we see, the external story, but the journey of their heart. Tragically, we try to ignore or silence our hearts—whether through busyness, work, hobbies, more church duties, or a colorful fantasy life. It never works, because we were made for more, and we know it. Which makes this the perfect moment to relaunch John Eldredge and Brent Curtis' book, The Sacred Romance. In the first of this three-part series, discover the origin story of this breathtaking message and hear John read the first chapter from the updated edition of this transformative book.

We long for more healing but often don't know how to pursue it in a focused, intentional manner. In this week's podcast, John is joined by Sam Eldredge, Stacia Littlefield, and Stacey Burton to discuss wholeheartedness and well-being. As Sam says, "Our wounds come through relationships, so our healing will also come through relationships." He created Noble Workshops as a safe space where those who feel stuck or need care for a wound in their story can go deeper in their healing through a unique process that combines experiential therapy with a holistic view of each person. In the series conclusion, John, Blaine, and Allen offer stories and insights on how God strengthens his people in times of crisis. One key trend is the growth in deep discipleship. Rather than try to fit a little bit of God into our busy schedules, we must take our life with Jesus seriously by seeking his Kingdom first—and then seeing what else there is room for. That's the only way to remain strong, love well, and stay in union with God as this world grows more chaotic.

In Part 3 of our series, John, Blaine, and Allen bring two streams together: 1) how followers of Jesus handle crisis, and 2) observable, accelerating trends of God.

This moment in time isn't unprecedented, but it is unique. In Part 2 of this series, John, Blaine, and Allen look at how the followers of Jesus responded to crises over the ages. It's a needed reminder because the pace of life and technology have left us weakened and weary rather than ready for whatever's coming next. Rather than grow more disenchanted, discover how Christianity provides a way to view the reenchantment of the world. With Jesus, we can experience calm, unshakable hope in the face of growing chaos—but only by wholeheartedly focusing on God and his purposes over control and self-preservation.

Ever wish you could ask John a question about a Wild at Heart podcast or for advice as a spiritual father? We created an email for listeners and viewers to do just that...and the response has been overwhelming! Allen chose some of the most intriguing questions to ask John in this first half of the series—including why we don't see miracles today like in Jesus' time, whether it's normal for believers to be exhausted, if we should ask angels directly for help, and how to recover the lost intimacy we once had with God.

St. Irenaeus said, "The glory of God is man fully alive." One of the significant ways we express the glory of God is through our creativity. Because to reflect the image of God is to be wildly creative. In the first half of this series, John and Allen share why pursuing what we love to do with God is essential to our wholeness—and how shame tries to derail this heart-awakening.

Many are familiar with Wild at Heart but few know how the ministry, originally named Ransomed Heart, came to be. It's a story of countless miracles from God, intense spiritual warfare, and amazing breakthroughs. In the first half of the series, John and Stasi share about the early, hard days of their marriage, their shared desire for a ministry of the heart, the initial plans to build a retreat center, how The Sacred Romance was almost never written, the unfathomable tragedy at the first men's event, the beautiful, messy start to the women's gatherings, and other significant milestones from the beginning chapters of the Wild at Heart story.

In the series conclusion, John, Alex, and Allen reveal how God alone is our refuge. We're meant to live within the safety of God, drawing our nourishment from our union with him. Not only believing in God, but living within him. Yet the world constantly pulls us out of this habitat while conditioning us to stay lost. So how do we find our way home? The life of the ordinary mystic will help us get back.

Being a Christian mystic was never meant to be something exceptional or rare. In Part 4 of the series, John, Alex, and Allen swap stories about what it looks like to live as ordinary, everyday mystics and how we're all meant to know God and the beauty of his kingdom in deep, profound ways. In this light, the Apostle John, St. Paul, and David were all mystics; certainly Adam and Eve were as well. Once we understand Christian mysticism as the daily experience of God as revealed in Jesus Christ, we can experience the normal life of an ordinary mystic.

In Part 3 of the series, John, Alex, and Allen reveal how Jesus wants to rescue us from the barriers to fully experiencing God and his kingdom. Returning to the life we were created for isn't a complicated process. But it does require us to exchange our cynicism, skepticism, and pragmatism for the simple trust of a child.

As the series continues, John, Alex, and Allen look at how our culture clings to the belief that practical information is the way to salvation. Yet as this information on the Internet is continually contradicted and undermined, we grow more fragile, vulnerable, and cynical. It has made weary skeptics of us all. Even in the area of faith, we try to make God and his kingdom 'practical' by stripping it of all wonder, mystery, and power. Thankfully, there is a way out of the madness.

John, Alex, and Allen begin this new series with a disruptive observation: We are all disciples of the Internet and it has shaped us profoundly. For one thing, the Internet has discipled our souls to anticipate, even demand, immediate answers. So when we ask God a question and are not answered in the way the Internet does, we feel he isn't listening. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. The effects go far, far deeper.

John and Allen conclude the First Quarter recap by focusing on what we believe will be our two most important podcasts this year. Together, they provide orientation to this moment in time. What does it mean to pursue the "All-In" Life—and why is that the only safe place in the world? John expands on a Narnia phrase to reveal that there's actually a second wardrobe door we must go through to experience the full Kingdom life. From there, John passionately shares why union with God must be at the epicenter of everything we are and do. The highlight segments are from our February 26, 2024, podcast (The "All-In" Life) and the March 4, 2024, episode (Don't Miss the Main Thing).

In this week's podcast, John shares his most important message of the year. He reveals how too many believers have missed the essence of Christianity. We were created for deep intimacy with God. That alone is the epicenter of the Christian life—not spiritual disciplines, social justice, ancient theology, or community, as good as those things may be. The central invitation is to know God rather than simply know a lot about him or do a lot for him. The recovery of this daily relational intimacy was never meant to be optional. It is the essence of everything.

There is no way to partially follow Jesus. In this week's podcast, John and Allen reveal the danger of divided affections, or what they call the "Jesus And" life. This approach never works— because we were created for Jesus alone to be at the center of every part of our lives. Discover why many settle for less than God intended—and how we can experience more by going through the "second wardrobe door". The "All-In" life isn't just the safest place in the world, it's actually the only safe place in the world.

In this second half of this podcast series, John and Allen dive even deeper into the clash between the real and the artificial, explaining how it is intensifying and why no one can remain neutral in this world of competing realities. They offer practical ways to navigate the chaos and choices before us by sharing the Five Tenets of the Real and Five Lies of the Artificial from Allen's new book, Risk the Real: How to Defy the Rise of the Artificial.
In The Matrix, Morpheus states, "There is a difference between knowing the path and walking the path." That's even more true here. Our goal isn't just greater awareness—but to actively step into the story God has created us for at this moment in time. Only then can we risk well for what matters most as we defy the artificial and pursue the real.

Every aspect of our lives is being invaded by the artificial. Yet we miss what’s at stake if we assume it's inevitable, neutral, or simply limited to AI. John and Allen reveal how the artificial actually has roots that go all the way back to Eden, when the serpent seduced Adam and Eve with a counterfeit narrative. These ancient roots entangle us in more ways than we realize.
The more we embrace the artificial, the more we find ourselves in a "Partificial Daze"—a haze of anxiety, exhaustion, and addiction that numbs us to what matters most.
Allen's new book, Risk the Real: How to Defy the Rise of the Artificial, offers a reality reorientation. Because there is only one antidote to the artificial—a wholehearted pursuit of the real where we embrace God as the Creator of reality and align with his intentions for us.
