When ministry envy, jealousy or even apathy creeps into your heart, it requires biblical self-examination to discern the true state of your soul. In this episode, we address a sincere question from a man consumed by Christian ministry struggles. He recognized that his desire to preach at a camp ministry was rooted in pride, leading to intense Christian doubts. This realization brought a terrifying question to his mind: am I a reprobate? Dr. Caldwell and host, Dr. Philpot explore how dealing with sin as a Christian can sometimes make a believer feel entirely lost. However, a true believer vs a reprobate will actually mourn over their sin and seek the Lord's forgiveness. The foundation of Christian assurance is not found in our roles or our performance, but in the finished work of Jesus Christ. If you find yourself asking, am I a false teacher, the very fact that your conscience is burdened is often a sign of life. Reprobates are rarely sensitive to their own pride. True assurance of salvation comes from resting in the gospel and finding significance in Christ alone. The sweetest title any of us will ever possess is simply child of God. When we experience jealousy in ministry, it is usually because we have adopted a worldly view of importance. To correct our thinking, we must turn to Scripture, specifically the teaching on spiritual gifts found in 1 Corinthians 12. It is here that we learn that God has placed every member in the body of Christ exactly as He desires. Examining ministry motives requires us to ask if we truly want God's will or our own exaltation. If we are dealing with envy, we must confess it, put this sin to death, and be willing to serve wherever the local church needs us. True Christian living demands humility and submission to the local church. Discovering your proper role in Christian ministry is not an isolated decision. It requires the wisdom and counsel of faithful elders who can evaluate your gifts objectively. False teacher signs are often revealed by those who seek to elevate themselves, sometimes even by demanding a platform for their own glory. If these describe you, then you must repent. But if you are simply a struggling saint with spiritual doubts, trust the Lord and rely on the godly leadership of your church. Our goal in this podcast, as those seeking to be faithful to the Lord and His Church, is to always point souls back to the Scriptures and a local body of Christ. We must hold a high view of God, His Word, and His Church, trusting that He equips His saints perfectly.
