In this episode, we explore the difficult question about: Whether and how,(if so) should Christians defend themselves when their character is under attack? Living the Christian life guarantees that you will eventually face criticism, and at times, you will be falsely accused. The flesh desires to respond with immediate defense and pride, but the biblical response to false accusations requires deep humility. We must recognize that we are sinners saved entirely by the grace of God. Our primary concern must never be our own egos, but rather the glory of God and the defense of His truth. When considering how to handle false accusations biblically, we must look to the example of the Apostle Paul and, ultimately, the Lord Jesus Christ. Christ suffered the ultimate mistreatment yet maintained perfect submission to the Father. For believers today, learning how to respond to criticism means asking if a defense is truly necessary for the sake of Christ and the gospel. If offering up a defense would only serve our personal pride, then we must practice turning the other cheek, and instead absorb the offense. The Christian response to slander is not built on vengeance or bitterness. Instead, responding to false accusations should involve prayer, self-examination, and a willingness to absorb the offense when the truth of the gospel is not at stake. Dealing with slander requires the power of the Holy Spirit to avoid answering sin with sin. This is a vital aspect of faithful Christian living and ongoing sanctification.
