To depart from the gospel of grace is to depart from God Himself. Paul’s amazement in Galatians 1 is not just at a shift in doctrine, but at a desertion of the One who called us. When we add human merit or religious performance to the finished work of Christ, we do not merely improve the message; we destroy it. A distorted gospel is no gospel at all, and it brings no salvation. We must hold fast to justification by faith alone.
